Everything You Need To Know Before You Rent Your First Dumpster or Portable Toilet!

Nates Containers

Our dumpsters are made of fabricated steel, ready to handle almost all types of material. We welcome the challenge of almost any waste disposal project! The only things our containers can’t hold is dirt, concrete, and some household items, such as appliances, mattresses, air conditioner units, chemicals, large electronics, lawn mowers, and no creosote or asbestos contaminated material. If your next job is requiring the big guns, then give Nates a call and we will get a dumpster out to your job or property!

Throwing out the trash should be easy. Let Nates Dumpsters handle the heavy lifting and provide you with a roll-off container to streamline your whole disposal process. All it takes is giving us a call, telling us about your project, including what material you’re getting rid of and how long you’d need the container. If you have any questions or concerns, please ask! We are here to make this a simple and straightforward process—which is how we do our pricing as well, by the way. Once your container is scheduled, remember to make sure you have a clear spot such as a driveway for placement of the dumpster. Also, lock up any animals, pets and unlock any gates or fences. When you’ve filled the container (not above the fill line or rim!), just give us a call and we’ll send out for the pickup on the dumpster. We specialize in customer service, so if you have any issues or concerns, let us know and we’ll be happy to help.

Preparing Your Jobsite for a Nates Dumpster

Most driveways can comfortably fit up to a 30-yard container, so usually preparation for your container can be accomplished by clearing your driveway of any vehicles or obstructions. However, there are a few things to keep note of when preparing for your dumpster delivery. First, your placement must be accessible to a roll-off truck. This usually means at least 12 feet of width for the vehicle clearance, and more if a sharp turn is required to access the site. Also, make sure there is 14 feet of vertical clearance—when the dumpster is pulled forward and up before being rolled off, it can go quite high, so clear any limbs, make note of any power lines, and if in doubt, give us a call or send a picture for our opinion. And remember, all of our containers are 8 feet wide, so make sure not only is the respective length possible for your location about also the width.

Preparing For Your Roll-Off Container

It’s important to lay the groundwork for your Nates dumpster before its arrival. A dumpster deserves a suitable home during its rental and that chiefly means a proper location to be placed—a concrete driveway is preferable, but gravel or packed dirt can also work in a pinch. Grass will be torn up and suffer ruts from the placement of a dumpster, so it is not recommended. It also may lead to the container being stuck, especially if it rains. Also make sure any gates are open and vehicles moved on the day of delivery to ensure nothing impedes the delivery of the dumpster. Low-hanging tree branches should also be trimmed if they are within reach of the dumpster. Our containers need at least 14-feet vertical clearance.

Loading a Dumpster

There is an art to loading a roll-off dumpster, luckily it’s not a very subtle one! There are two main guiding rules to abide by—first, never fill above the “fill” line marked inside the container, or especially past the rim of the dumpster itself. We place a plastic tarp across the roll-off when removing it and it must be able to lay flat across the span of the container. Watch out especially for lumber, poking furniture, or other sharp objects which jut up and could tear the tarp. And secondly, it’s important to remember to spread the loaded materials across the full container as much as is feasible. If material is pushed all to one side, especially toward the front, then it makes it exponentially more difficult for a roll-off truck to pick up the container due to the lopsided weight. Also, when loading dense material like shingles, brick, or similar debris, these containers can only be filled halfway due to weight. If you have any questions when loading your container, just give us a call!

Dumpster Guidelines

Renting a dumpster isn’t without responsibility. While the container is on your site, it’s yours to take care of, making sure it isn’t damaged or moved by a third party. Also, you’ll need to make sure no unallowed substances make it inside the container. While our dumpsters can handle most material easily, there are some troublemakers to be on the lookout for.

These Items Don’t Belong In A Nate’s Dumpster.

Any appliances like refrigerators, washers, dryers, AC units, stoves, and chest freezers. Also, any item with a motor or which had chemicals in it like a lawnmower, weedwhacker, or similar gas-powered device. In addition, the landfill will not take mattresses, due to the springs and their general density. And finally, remember no chemicals or liquids of any kind can go inside the container, from the mildest of household cleaners to heavier industrial products. We are here to handle the mess and keep your job going!

FAQs: We’re Here To Help

How Do I Go About Switching A Full Dumpster?

Nates Dumpsters is with you for the duration of your job. Rather than just dropping a container and being done, we offer switch outs for when your container is full (pricing is similar to getting a new container.) Remember, you can’t fill the container above the fill line or rim, so it’s best to call us and pre schedule your swap out when you see your container is starting to get full. Most times, we are able to come the next day to switch it out for you, but it does depend on the volume of orders we are receiving. Just give us a call and we will schedule your swap out!

How Do I Prevent A Dumpster Fire?

Dumpster fires are real and they can be prevented! Remember, never load any type of accelerant inside the dumpster, such as chemicals or highly flammable material, especially packed tightly together. When loading the dumpster, leave barriers of less susceptible material. Don’t let a dumpster fire ruin your day (or our container!) with just a few safety tips!
